Columbus, OH — The Ohio State Crew is pleased to announce Andy Wimmer as its next Men’s Head Coach and Director of Rowing. Wimmer, an OSU Crew alumnus, has strong ties to the Program, the University, and the Columbus area. As a student-athlete, Wimmer rowed for four years with OSU Crew, and was elected as a Team Captain for the 1999-2000 season.
“I am excited to return to the campus of Ohio State as head coach of the program.” said Wimmer. “OSU Crew taught me many life lessons and how to be competitive through dedication, discipline and hard work. My time was special and my goal is for the student-athletes benefit from the similar experiences and achieve success on the water. I am looking forward to continuing the development of this team and becoming a perennial national medalist.”
Wimmer returns to the Ohio State Program after several years coaching for Upper Arlington High School rowing team. During his tenure at UA, Wimmer consistently placed crews in the highest level of junior rowing. His recent results include a 5th place finish of the Boys Varsity 8 at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Championships in 2017, and a 3rd place finish in 2018.
OSU Crew Club President Jake Bridges ‘19 stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Andy Wimmer back to the OSU Crew family this fall. We are confident that Coach Wimmer will bring the experience, energy, and dedication necessary to guide the team to national success.”
Wimmer graduated from The Ohio State University in 2000 with a B.S. in Hospitality Management. He also served on the board of the Buckeye Rowing Alumni Association (BRAA) from 2002-2004.
