Trailer Renovations

Ohio State Crew Club would like to thank Coaches; Tom Madden, Katie Salvator, and Cole Vanicek, rowers; Adam Reckless, Paul Mangold and Josh Taub along with recent graduate Ian Dunn for their help with the trailer bed replacement. A special thanks to Mr. Reckless for donating his time, his tools, and his expertise to help the club replace the worn through and weathered bed of the trailer. The trailer looks as good as new and should be able to withstand the wear and tear of the travels for many seasons to come.

ACRA May 22nd—23rd

The Buckeyes topped off their season at the National Championship in Oklahoma City. ACRA (American Collegiate Rowing Association) presented stiff winds and stiffer competition. 30+mph winds delayed and cancelled some races. The team pulled through as both the novice women’s four and the novice men’s four were awarded bronze medals based on their time trial times. The Buckeyes won several individual honors. Oarswoman Ellen Manovich was awarded All American First Team, while Claire Foley made the All Freshmen Boat as a coxswain. Tori Mason and Alex Naegele made All American third team. Anna Kwa, Ellen Mavovich and Elena Reynolds received First Team Academic All Americans while Carter East, Katie Magee, Claire Mondro, Lucas Serdar, Julie Stehli, and Megan Weisman took Second Team Academic All Americans.

Dad Vail May 6-7

The Buckeyes met 125 of the nation’s best crews in the city of brotherly love. Dad Vail (est. 1934) is the largest regatta in the country and is among its most competitive. Strong semifinal performances were made by the Men’s novice four, the Men’s pair(uncoxed), the Men’s varsity lightweight four, Women’s novice four and the Women’s varsity eight. The team would like to express tremendous appreciation to the Alumni association and the Parents club. The tent, cheering and food (especially the food) were the best they have ever been, creating an excellent atmosphere for rowers and parents alike.

This year’s Mid-American Collegiate Rowing Association championship took place in Athens Ohio. The Men’s lightweight varsity four took home gold,
the senior varsity four took silver, and the varsity eight earned bronze. The
Women’s novice 4 took gold, the varsity light four took silver, and the
varsity eight took home bronze.

Dad Vail Regatta

The time that the Ohio State Crew Club has been training for since mid September has finally come. This Friday and Saturday (May 7th and 8th) the Ohio State crew Club will race at the largest collegiate regatta in the nation, the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta. The regatta will take place on the Schuylkill River, just north east of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the most historic and beloved race courses in the nation. Ohio State will be sending eight crews to Dad Vails this year: Men’s Varsity Heavyweight Eight, Women’s Varsity Heavyweight Eight (Open), Men’s Varsity Heavyweight Four, Women’s JV Heavyweight Eight, Men’s Lightweight Four, Women’s Frosh/Novice Four, Men’s Pair and Men’s Frosh/Novice Four. These eight boats will be racing against almost 500 other crews including some of the fastest teams in the nation. Spring Break ’10

March 19th-27th the Buckeyes returned to Lake Lure, North Carolina for their annual spring training. The team continued its many traditions such as the mountain run, senior jump in, inter-squad fun row, and the Oarswomen/Oarsmen jacket ceremony. Congratulations to varsity rowers Adam Reckless, Josh Taub, Corey Lach, Erik Meister, Colin Richards, Julie Stehli, Alyson Day, and Jordan McFall for earning their team jackets. The week concluded with the women performing competitive practice pieces with West Virginia, and the men racing UNC. The men made a strong showing sweeping all varsity events.

Winter Formal

Buckeye Rowing Alumni Association hosted their annual winter formal at Gordon Biersch. Coaches, rowers and alumni all dressed up and enjoyed great food, while catching up with old friends.
