Ohio State Crew Club 10th Annual Row for Dimes

December 19, 2010 in Uncategorized

On March 5th, 2011 the Ohio State Crew Club will spend the day rowing in support of the March of Dimes. Each club member will participate in a day-long row-a-thon to support the March of Dimes. All proceeds raised that day will be donated directly to support their mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. They conquered Polio in 1955; let’s help them continue this important work.

The Ohio State Crew Club provides a social and athletic outlet for students of The Ohio State University. We are a self-supporting organization with minimal funding from the university, and rely heavily on donations. Prior to March 5th, a portion of any contributions raised will go towards helping our student athletes compete at a national level. Please help keep our boats on the water!

Donations can be made online, through OSU Crew’s secure Acceptiva page: click here, or through the mail to OSU Crew Club, 1849 Cannon Drive, Columbus, OH 43210.

Also, donations of $50 or more can be considered tax deductible when checks are made out to ORRC (Olentangy River Rowing Club), the alumni association through which our club has tax deductible status.

For more information, please visit our Row-For-Dimes portion of the website, or contact our Fundraising Officer, Julie Stehli, at: stehli.4@osu.edu

Southwestern Ohio Cup

November 23, 2010 in Uncategorized

It was great to be able to compete against Dayton again this season. The men’s novice 8+, the men’s second novice 8+, the women’s second novice 8+, and the men’s varsity 8+ all took first in their respective races against some competitive Dayton and Cincinnati boats. The other boats did an excellent job closing the time gap. When we meet up with Dayton again in the spring, hopefully we’ll be seeing Ohio State victories across the board.

Head of the Occoquan

November 9, 2010 in Uncategorized

On November 5, 2010, the team traveled south to Fairfax, Virginia for a weekend of East Coast competition at Head of the Occoquan. It was exciting for the team to see crews from NCAA women’s schools such as Georgetown, George Mason and the Naval Academy along with top tier men’s club programs from Notre Dame and George Mason. The Occoquan has many twists and turns and provided a a thrilling challenge for coxswains as well as rowers. Neither fierce winds nor winding courses could keep the members of OSU Crew from victory, however. The men’s varsity 8+ took silver, the men’s novice 8+ took bronze, and the men’s novice 4+ took gold in their respective events. Over all, OSU Crew represented the Buckeyes well. The team’s impressive results at Head of the Occoquan suggest that this spring’s competitions will be exhilarating.

Head of the Eagle

November 9, 2010 in Uncategorized

The OSU Crew Club traveled to Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis on October 30, 2010 for Head of the Eagle regatta. Head of the Eagle allowed the team members a chance to test their mettle against highly competitive crews from schools like Grand Valley State University, Purdue, University of Michigan, and University of Chicago. The team executed solid performances across the board, which was especially impressive considering the stacked field, the difficulty of the course, and the seemingly gale-force winds. Special congratulations are owed to the silver medal winning varsity men’s lightweight 4+, and gold medal winning single sculler Bryan Esser.
