The Buckeyes traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and finished 6th out of 42 colleges in total team points. The men’s championship 8 placed 3rd among 13 crews. The men’s lightweight 4+ took home a gold medal, while the men’s club 8 finished 4th. The women made a strong showing placing 2nd in the club 8 and 4th in the lightweight 4+. For those keeping track at home: our new Vespoli fours have already taken home two gold medals against stiff competition.

The Ohio State Crew Club added three new, top of the line racing shells to its fleet. Head coach Hugh Dodd made the long drive up to the Vespoli factory in New Haven, Connecticut, to haul back a brand new M2 8, a new Ultralight 4+, and the demo Ultralight 4+ that the men’s novice won ACRA with last year. These investments reflect the program’s commitment to having the best equipment available to compete at the highest level.

The men and women’s novice teams competed in their first races October 24th. Both teams finished 1st and 2nd in their races. These first-season rowers challenged the nearly 5-kilometer course after only three weeks on the team. The rapid progress of these rowers, many of whom did not compete in high school, is a credit to women’s novice coach Katie Salvator, and men’s novice coach Cole Vanicek. These impressive results reaffirm that the Ohio State Crew Club can turn hard working, disciplined athletes into skilled oarsmen and women.
